I have a simple philosophy, always have lock picks on whichever character you're using, and always open every chest you see in regular play... low end, high end, hard mode or normal. Getting these extra points while playing helps a lot.

When you need to get points on a specific title, Lucky or Unlucky, find a chest run that best supports your point gain versus the cost of lock picks.

As others have mentioned, the Boreal run (in either HM or NM) is a nice one, as is running Fronis Irontoe's lair... both are quick and yield a goodly number of chests over time.
